My daddy celebrated his birthday recently and I posted one of the things I enjoy from being his baby girl. I said I’m so confident in my dad that I don’t even have to think about some things and I am already fond of the statement “let me call my daddy”. I realized that the way I’m so confident in my dad is the same way I’m so confident in my God. I’ve heard people often say that “the way you relate with your earthly father has a big influence on how you relate with your heavenly father” and for the first time I can actually relate.
One of the important things I learnt from relating with my dad is the confidence I have in him. The way I say “my daddy” with so much confidence amazes even me. When relating with God, don’t go to him with doubt in your heart. Have that confidence that he is a provider. Sometimes, we tend to put God on conditions. An example of putting God on condition was when I spoke to someone who claimed to be an atheist. I asked him why he decided to be an atheist, he claimed that God disappointed him, he wanted something from God in return for him believing. Remember what Jesus told Thomas when he wanted to feel the holes of Jesus’ crucifixion? “blessed are those who do not see but believes”. Confidence is not seeing the manifestation yet, but holding on to the faith that it will come to pass.
Another thing I learnt from my relationship with my daddy is not to call him only when I need something. One thing I do randomly, mostly on weekends, is to call my dad and check on him, other times I call him to give him updates on my school work. My brother (AKA olowo ori Ife ti gbogbo Fitags world) once had issues with one of his banks, Access bank to be precise, and my brother’s next line of action is to start fasting and prayer everyday (this was before his Pastor M era) and one day I just had to say it. I told him “you can’t sakamaje God”. On a normal day without the bank issues, my brother does not take fasting serious but because he needed something urgently, he wants to scam God. My dear, God cannot be scammed, if you don’t talk to God on a daily basis, you can’t command certain results. You see people and you admire their growth, they worked for it bruh! You should work towards yours too.
Finally, one thing that helped me with my dad is calling him different kind of sweet nicknames, presently I call him “my lord” and he answers “spiritual or temporal”. It’s indeed a very beautiful scene to behold, people even go as far as calling me his wife. Same applies with God, when you want to talk to Him and you first praise him and call Him your lover, your boss, your guy. Create an atmosphere that will make you comfortable with Him, and see how smoothly your rapport with Him will go
.
Now, some people might not have the opportunity of having a real father figure while growing up or at the moment, that should not be an excuse not to do all these things with God, try it with Him and feel that comfort you have been longing for.
The sweetest thing is these things do not apply to only a particular set of people, no matter your race, your tribe, or your religion or belief, the sweetness of God is open to all.
God is meant to be feared, yes! But God is to be loved too.
